The company you keep is what makes or breaks you. From a young age, it did not take long for me to come to the conclusion that you flock to who you feel closest to. This has become a big theme in my life. Relationships in life but especially in your 20s are forever changing and evolving. I noticed that as my immediate circle began to look different as the years went on that it was a good practice to keep relationships on good terms. This is applicable to my first corporate experience at my full time internship after college. In my program called MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program), many of the fellows were connected to an agency for the summer. The agency I was connected with was called "Formerly Known As" which is under the Publicis Groupe. Formerly Known As was constructed from the binding of two previous Publicis Groupe Agencies; Moxie and Rauxa. Hence the name, the two were put together to create a joint agency where I spent a lot of time getting to know the ins and outs of the company. As a Project Coordinator Intern, relationships are everything. The clients, the team you work with, and your relationship with yourself all goes into play. While at Formerly Known As, there are two types of clients. A retainer client that is more long term and consistent and a project based client that is more short term and fast paced. Both relationship with these clients are crucial to the success of the projects of the clients, the functionality of the teams and the overall prosperity of the agency. Therefore, in agency life, I've seen the dance of a push and pull that the agency participates in to sway the clients off their feet. This serves as a reminder that to maintain long lasting and strong relationships is setting yourself up to be surrounded by those who are willing to work with you to create something you both enjoy.
